Owen Money and the Knews

“The Knews” were a informal punk collective and mini-cult from Dundee Oregon founded by Owen Munni. The band had its origins as a left wing anti-political movement called Knews, an artistic and musical art project led by the Romanian-born poet and visual artist Owen Munni (Money), cousin of Eddie Money. Originating in 1980s Portland, the group was heavily influenced by the preceding punk movements in LA and San Francisco, seeking to apply critical theories based on their anti foundational concepts to all areas of art, culture, and daily life. Among some of the concepts and artistic innovations developed by the Knews were unintentional songs reflecting pure form yet devoid of all semantic content, new syntheses of improptu performance such as setting up their gear and performing uninvited at funeral receptions and weddings as well as new creative techniques in daily living.
